Some of my all time favorite Christmas songs are the old hymns like We Three Kings. Whenever I’m putting together our Christmas shows I always include as many as I can. When we were planning on recording a Christmas single, we wanted to feature a guest vocalist on a duet style song that normally is not a duet. We Three Kings is one of my favorites to do, and the band knocked this performance out of the park. I’m so pleased to have the great Valerie Smith on this track. Her soulful voice elevates the song so much and she was such a pleasure to work with. As usual, I changed the words and arrangement a bit to try to fit the more modern Folk/Newgrass feel we strive to attain.

Lyrics

We three kings of orient are
Bearing gifts we’ve traveled so far
Field and fountain moor and mountain
Following yonder star

Born a king on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown him again
King forever ceasing never
Over us all to reign

Oh, oh
Star of wonder star of night
Star of royal beauty bright
Westward leading still proceeding
Guide us to that perfect light
Frankincense to offer have I
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Prayer and praising, all men raising
Worship Him, God most high

Oh, oh
Star of wonder star of night
Star of royal beauty bright
Westward leading still proceeding
Guide us to that perfect light

We three kings of orient are
Bearing gifts we’ve traveled so far
Field and fountain moor and mountain
Following yonder star
